Pawpaws

November 1st, 2008

Have you ever seen a pawpaw? We just happen to have a nice grove of pawpaw trees down by the river at Murphy’s Place. I hadn’t realized they were there till I was walking along beside the river and looked down. There was a pawpaw, laying right in the path. I started looking and there were several trees with lots of pawpaws on them. I’m not a big fan of pawpaws, but I tried one just to make sure they tasted like I remembered. Yep, about like a cross between a banana and a persimmon. The flesh is bright yellow and the skins are green. Here is a picture of some. So, if you are ever lost in the Ozark river bottoms, you may be able to fend off starvation till you are found just because I showed you what a pawpaw looks like.

Here you go!

Copperstone Cottage complete!

July 31st, 2008

We finally finished. This little cottage is just awesome. The vanity in the bathroom is made from an old copper tub flipped upside down and cut to fit. The bar top is a recycled church pew. Lots of craftsmanship and imagination went into this project!

Here are some pictures of the inside.

The covered deck and patio are nice too!

Catfish!

July 31st, 2008

We had some guests at Murphy’s Retreat that stayed for a whole week! They were nice enough to send us a photo of the 12 pound Channel Catfish they caught while they were here.

Thought you might like to see it.

Catch ya later!

Interesting visitor.

June 12th, 2008

When I went down to Murphy’s retreat today, I had quite a surprise. There was an unexpected visitor perched on the roof, admiring his reflection in the windows. By the time I retrieved my camera, he had moved on down the roof into the shade.

It isn’t too hard to see why he might be a bit vain. Isn’t he beautiful?

I tossed him a couple of handfuls of chopped corn. Who knows, maybe he’ll hang around for a while.

Have a great day and come see us.

Progress!

May 30th, 2008

The outside of our new 1 bedroom cabin is nearly complete. The inside is getting close as well. Appliances should be in next week.

Dirt work is done and grass seed scattered. Hopefully we will have grass soon.

Pictures of the inside will be coming as soon as the construction workers finish up!

Well, the roof is on and the cedar shake siding is being stained right now.

The covered back porch boasts a lovely view of the river and our hay field. This will be a cozy cabin perfect for a couple wanting a relaxing weekend together.
